Listening To It (Ear) (Chinese Character Series) Chinese block characters were used as grid overlays in this series of gouaches. Beneath the character is a transparent outline suggesting facets in gem cutting and a background of growth forms. The Chinese character substitutes for the grid found in past work. While it might transmit a suggestive feeling to the work for someone versed in Mandarin, it was mainly selected for its shape. |
