The Vajra drawings, 2018 and 2023
A Vajra is a Tibetan ritual object symbolizing spiritual teachings, endless creativity, and skillful means. It can be used as a spiritual weapon for protection in this world and is often wielded by deities to defeat ignorance or internal obstacles to enlightenment. Vajra represents the indestructible power of truth. These drawings apply an abstract Vajra in the form of a pointed black and white system to a variety of flea-market visual items, chiefly foxed, water-damaged, or torn reproduction prints. The symbolic action of the abstract Vajra varies slightly from piece to piece, depending on how the prints are intended and the meanings that result.
