The work is a salvaged section from a larger sculpture employing hydrostone, a plaster like mix of portland cement. These pieces explored an “amorphous” lava-like flow of plaster to “envelope” stranded and extraneous parts into a sculptural whole. They were part of a largely abandoned attempt to find a new sculptural making process instead of using pre-conceived forms or pre-conceived organizing principles. Painted highlights attempted to give the works a reference to the feeling of “body” or “body traces in the landscape.”
